Alejandro Salgueiro

PhD Student

Alejandro Salgueiro is a PhD researcher in the Energy Weather & AI lab. He studied Environmental Sciences at the University of Lausanne and Geo-Information Science at Wageningen University. Alejandro’s research interests center on the use of remote sensing and artificial intelligence to study the atmosphere and the environment. In his master’s thesis, he explored atmospheric remote sensing and deep learning methods to improve precipitation nowcasting from ground radar data. In an internship, he focused on atmospheric remote sensing with the MTG Infrared Sounder (IRS), where he developed AI-based approaches to enhance the speed of the retrieval algorithm and radiative transfer calculations.
Alejandro’s PhD research focuses on applying deep learning architectures to invert satellite measurements into surface and atmospheric geophysical parameters. This work contributes to the integration of state-of-the-art AI methods into satellite meteorology, with the aim of improving availability, quality and efficiency for weather prediction systems.
