Solomiia Kurchaba
Postdoctoral Researcher
Solomiia Kurchaba is a postdoctoral researcher at the Energy Weather & AI Lab and the Department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing. Solomiia is part of the UrbanAIR project, where she works on downscaling and forecasting of land surface temperatures in urban environments using AI and satellite data.
Before joining UrbanAIR, Solomiia completed her PhD at Leiden University, where she developed machine learning methods to estimate nitrogen dioxide emissions from seagoing ships using TROPOMI/S5P satellite data. After that, she worked as a postdoc at the Space Research Institute Netherlands (SRON), focusing on setting up the CAMS Methane Hotspot Explorer and developing machine learning approaches for improving methane plume detections from TROPOMI observations.
